Split-footed lacewings declined over time: indications from the morphological diversity of their antlion-like larvae

چکیده

Abstract Nymphidae, the group of split-footed lacewings, is a rather species-poor group. Split-footed lacewings nowadays are restricted to Australasia, while fossil forms also known from other areas world, indicating that was more species-rich and therefore likely diverse in past. have distinct larvae, roughly resembling antlion but differing latter especially with regard mandibles. Antlion larvae usually three prominent teeth on each mandible, at least extant only single tooth per mandible. Fossils interpreted as well amber Myanmar (ca. 100 myr; Burmese amber) by specimen Baltic (about 40 myr). We here report additional specimens amber, expanding record six depicted 15. For fauna, we could compile 25 larvae. compare diversity shape through time using an outline analysis (based elliptic Fourier transformation) head. The results this indicate morphological diversity, or disparity, lacewing higher past than it today. With type analysis, can show loss over time, without necessity identify down narrow taxonomical range. A similar pattern has already been recognised silky Psychopsidae. This might general

The First Mitochondrial Genomes of Antlion (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae) and Split-footed Lacewing (Neuroptera: Nymphidae), with Phylogenetic Implications of Myrmeleontiformia

In the holometabolous insect order Neuroptera (lacewings), the cosmopolitan Myrmeleontidae (antlions) are the most species-rich family, while the closely related Nymphidae (split-footed lacewings) are a small endemic family from the Australian-Malesian region. Both families belong to the suborder Myrmeleontiformia, within which controversial hypotheses on the interfamilial phylogenetic relation...

Identifying the most important habitats of Tamarix sp. in Markazi province and studying their morphological diversity

Tamarix sp. Shrub species are extended in steppe and salt marsh areas. These species have adapted to the most hard climatic conditions. Therefore, it is distributed in the driest regions of Iran. The native plants are rarely used for landscape in Iran. So, identifying native plants that has the potential to be ornamental, in addition to the attractiveness of landscape can prevent soil erosion. ...
